Quansheng UV-K5 programming from Android
The UV-K5 is unusually attractive to experimenters because the radio has an active custom-firmware community. That also creates a programming challenge: a driver that understands one firmware's memory layout or settings may not safely represent another. PocketCHIRP's approach is to keep firmware-aware drivers distinct and let compatible custom drivers participate in the mobile programming workflow.
That means Android programming can remain useful even after the radio moves beyond its original firmware, as long as a compatible driver exists for that firmware and model combination.
Verified UV-K5 custom firmware support
VUURWERK
PocketCHIRP has a UV-K5 VUURWERK driver with read and write verification. The recorded transport contract includes both USB serial and a Bluetooth programmer path.
IJV_V3
PocketCHIRP has a UV-K5 IJV_V3 driver with hardware-verified Bluetooth and USB read and write support.
Custom drivers on Android
PocketCHIRP can load compatible custom CHIRP drivers directly into the app workflow. This is useful for radios or firmware variants that need a driver newer than, different from, or more specialized than the bundled catalog. The custom-driver path is also how PocketCHIRP can support experimentally evolving radio communities without pretending every driver has the same maturity.

Transport support depends on the selected driver, radio and programmer. VUURWERK has a verified PocketCHIRP path covering USB serial and a Bluetooth programmer. IJV_V3 has also been verified for both Bluetooth and USB read/write programming. Use the firmware-specific pages for exact details rather than assuming every UV-K5 firmware or programmer behaves identically.
